- Google Survey reveals that 90% of developers use AI at work, 80% see higher productivity
- Two -thirds depend strongly on AI, many use it 2 hours / day
- Many still do not trust the production of AI, which suggests that more things must be done
It is not a secret for anyone that developers use AI to help their repetitive coding activities, but the new Google research has revealed the real extent of the use of AI – two in three software developers (65%) saying that they are now based strongly on AI tools.
In terms of general use, almost all development professionals (90%) have now used AI, a strong increase compared to the 14% observed in 2024.
Today, the median time spends using AI in workflows among this type of workers is now two o’clock.
Google says developers really use AI
The advantages for developers using technology are clear – four out of five agree that they see higher productivity in the use of AI, and three out of five (59%) claim to see improvements in their code quality.
When you use a generative AI, developers can free themselves more time for problem solving, design and monitoring, with the giant lower level coding requests.
However, there remains a certain resentment to put the work to computer intelligence, with less than a quarter (24%) by trusting the results of AI “a lot” or “many”. As such, developers tend to see AI as a support tool, not to replace the human judgment.
Despite our worst fears, the report also reveals that the adoption of AI has not yet changed the way the developers still live their lives, the programmers believing that their expertise is always valued despite the boom of the economical AI in time.
For companies, AI has both positive and negative implications, with Google Senior Director for Ryan J Salva Products calling for technology a “mirror and a multiplier”.
“In cohesive organizations, AI stimulates efficiency. In that of the fragments, it highlights the weaknesses, ”noted Salva.
The DEVOPS research and evaluation program of decade (Dora) divided workers into seven team archetypes to dive a little more on the way AI affects developers at work, concluding that organizations must “develop their culture, their processes and their systems to support a new era of software development”.
