- WhatsApp finally deploys a message translation tool
- It takes place on Android and iPhone
- There is an additional functionality exclusive to Android users
WhatsApp finally deploys its translation of messages highly requested in Android and iPhone, a new tool that allows you to translate incoming messages into your favorite language.
Meta has unveiled the new WhatsApp tool via a blog article, which occurs months after Apple’s live translation function in iOS 26. For the moment, WhatsApp’s translation capacities are arriving on Android and iPhone, so we do not know if the same thing will apply to WhatsApp for the web or its Mac and Windows applications in the future.
To activate a translation in a WhatsApp message, all you have to do is press a incoming message in the long term and select the new “Translate” option from the context menu, then select the language of which you want the message to be translated from or to. You can also download your most used languages for future translations.
One of the advantages of this new tool is that it is not limited to conversations 1: 1 and can be used in group cats and even channel updates. Meta also revealed that translations occur on devices, as opposed to the cloud, protecting your privacy. As for language availability, WhatsApp begins small.
For iPhone users, translations will be available in more than 19 languages to start. In the case of Android, only six languages (English, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian and Arab) will be available with more to come, however, Android users will have access to an additional advantage that iPhone users will not be.
Thread translations are exclusive to Android
Despite the limited language options for Android users, WhatsApp compensates for this with translations of wire, allowing you to translate a whole message thread instead of translating them one by one, which iPhone users will always have to do.
When you activate the automatic translation for chat threads, all future messages incoming on this conversation will be translated – save you a lot of time with future translations.
The arrival of messages of messages marks a significant change in the ecosystem of WhatsApp, although other messaging platforms introduced similar tools some time ago. WhatsApp users have been asking for translation functionality for a few years, and so far they have had to look for third -party solutions such as Swift Translate and Todalingua to solve their translation problems.
With translations of messages, WhatsApp has shared that it “hop (s) this feature helps to break linguistic barriers and allows users to connect more deep with dear beings and communities around the world”. It is a small launch for Android users at the moment, but it is likely to grow as more and more users get used to it.
