Super bowl champion coach Tony Dungy was reflected on Tuesday on the commemorative service of Charlie Kirk.

Thousands of mourning people flocked to the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, during the weekend in honor of the 31-year-old conservative influencer, murdered during an event at the University of Utah Valley earlier this month.

Erika Kirk, Charlie’s wife, was one of those who say comforting speeches. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk were also among those who speak to service.

“I think people were energized and I was very appreciable,” said Dungy on “don’t @ me with Dan Dakich d’Outkick”. “Remove all politics. Simply say: “We are going to honor the life of this man. We are going to talk about what Christ would say and what he wants to see, and I thought it had been done.

“You are never going to withdraw politics completely. But I thought the essential was exactly what it should be.”

Dungy did not attend the event. At least a sporting figure in the world of sport was there – the recruit of the Chicago Cubs, Matt Shaw.

Mets advertisers criticize the Cubs player Matt Shaw for leaving the team to attend Charlie Kirk funeral

Shaw was a friend of Charlie Kirk and took a photo with him alongside his teammate Michael Busch in Wrigley Field in the weeks preceding his death.

Shaw explained why he left the team to attend the service on Tuesday.

“My connection with Charlie was through our [Christian] Faith, “said the Cubs opened a new series with New York dishes, via the Sun-Totes Chicago.” And this is something that leads me every day, the reason why I am able to do what I do every day, and this is something that I am extremely grateful.

“I know that without my faith and without the many blessings that have been given to me in my life, that I would not be here, that I could speak to you, capable of helping this team finally winning championships.

“This is something that I really feel, really blessed, so whatever the backlash is ok. I feel strong about my faith and that what had to happen.”
