Pakistan, Syria has installed a joint group to stimulate trade, agriculture, technological links

Pakistan and Syria have undertaken to expand bilateral cooperation in trade, agriculture and technology, agreeing to form a joint working group to continue a concrete collaboration.

During a meeting held in Islamabad on September 24, 2025, the Pakistani Minister of Food Safety and National Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and the Syrian ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ramez Alraee, discussed bonds of strengthening in several sectors.

A central result of their discussion was the decision to establish a joint working group which will explore the practical collaboration routes, in particular modern agricultural practices, water resources management, capacity building and the facilitation of agricultural trade.

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed that agriculture remains a highly potential sector for the two countries and has emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to deepen trade and technical cooperation with Syria. He said Pakistan is ready to share its expertise in agricultural research, Development of Seeds and Modern Culture Methods to help improve productivity.

In his remarks, the ambassador, Dr. Ramez Alraee, expressed his gratitude for the support of Pakistan and reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to engage closely with Pakistan in mutually beneficial projects. He underlined the opportunities for improving collaboration not only in agriculture but also in the broader fields of trade and technology.

As part of the wider cooperation objectives, the two parties agreed to extend collaboration to science and technology, investments and industrial development. The two countries have recognized the importance of joint research initiatives, the exchange of technical skills and the facilitation of the trade in agricultural goods and services.

This development is based on the previous efforts of the two countries to strengthen links. In October 2023, Pakistan and Syria had already agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture and trade, signaling the continuity of their bilateral program. The current agreement demonstrates progress in the procedure of these commitments.

The creation of the joint working group should pave the way for understanding, technical and possibly joint venture memoranda in the agriculture, trade and technology sectors. The two governments believe that the creation of an institutional mechanism will help ensure the implementation of agreed projects and to identify new areas of collaboration in a systematic manner.

The initiative reflects a renewed impulse in Pakistani-Syric relations, with agriculture and technology used as anchor sectors. The effectiveness of the new working group will be essential to translate these intentions into tangible results for the benefit of the two nations.
