- Intel rumors are used to hike the price of certain older laptop processors
- Lake Raptor’s tokens increase by 10%, we are told
- This could be even more pressure on the manufacturers of laptops, given the increases in recent RAM price, which makes the notebooks more expensive
Prices for laptops can increase in the near future, and this time the problem can be linked to Intel processors, according to new rumors.
As reported by Jukan on X, Digitimes reports that according to the sources of the supply chain in Asia, Intel plans to raise the price of its raptor Lake processors for laptops of just over 10% in T4 2025. This may not ring the costs of earth, but it would come up against misery for managers of executives who are already confronted with increased costs Components.
Apparently, one of the main reasons for this Raptor Lake hike is the “dull performance of PCs IA” – but with all this, we must keep in mind that the figures are not always the most reliable source (although the site gets things that are correct of part of the time), and also translation problems around the article too.
What is happening, we are told is that the new PCs IA – Copilot + laptops – do not sell as well as expected, and therefore the demand for Lac Lunar (Intel processors with strong npu for these devices) was not as strong as expected.
Consequently, there has been more requests for older mobile fleas from Lake Raptor – even if they are now three -year -old processors – and Intel is therefore struggling to meet these needs of notebooks. For this reason, the company will ask for more these chips – as the report notes: “Lake Raptor has been lacking since the middle of the year, and the supply remains tight.”
The Digitimes journalist contacted Intel about this chatter of price increases, but Team Blue said he would not comment at the moment.
The thin supply of chips of Lake Lac Raptor remains a “major concern” for notebooks, and one of the best five suppliers “is experiencing significant tenders”, the report also affirms, without naming this manufacturer.
Analysis: Bleak Friday
Ok, before going too far with pessimism, we must take this only relationship with a properly heavy dose of seasoning. In addition, it is obviously true that the chips of Lake Raptor are not the whole market of laptops – there are many other Intel processors, and of course also notebooks powered by AMD.
However, Lake Raptor is clearly a popular choice for traditional notebooks – which means that PCs not AI – and some of the best game laptops too, so if this price increase is really real, the problem is that it is still another pressure on the manufacturers of laptops. Remember that these suppliers are also faced with the increase in RAM prices in the fourth quarter, and an upward movement with SSD prices also – an unfortunate trio of key components that could be added to an unpleasant headache when you try to assess their products.
As the Digitime Report points out, this is a difficult situation for PC manufacturers who are now trying to plan Black Friday sales – the tempting prices will be difficult to find with the component market forces currently in place, which increases costs for portable computers.
It is also interesting to see the observation of the report that the PCs of AI do not shoot all cylinders as analysts now expected – and that sales remain lukewarm, consumers not tempted by these devices (or even companies to a certain extent). It makes sense to me – I know that I am not particularly attracted by the purchase of a Copilot + PC, and although I would not exclude the idea, I certainly would not want to pay a bonus for such a device. It is clear enough that the exclusive features of the AI that Copilot + machines offer could be moderately convincing in a few cases, but these are mainly sorts of which I am not too rigged.
That said, analyst societies and some notebooks sing a different melody on IA PC sales – although a large part of the thrust is always focused on the success of these devices in the future.
Indeed, the end of life of Windows 10 – which occurs next month – could help to trigger PC sales a little more, as this means that a good number of new Windows 11 devices will be purchased to replace Windows 10 PC. However, as the report observes, it is likely to cause the business market, but not necessarily consumers – and do not forget, people can now register for an additional year of support for Windows 10 for free.
Currently, there is an air of concern concerning the weakness of PC sales in general, which is aggravated by fears as with the increase in the costs of components, the black friday transactions on laptops are not as convincing as usual – and therefore the manufacturers of notebooks can have trouble capitalizing on this normally in full rise period.
