Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. António Guterres, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 26.
The meeting was described as “warm and cordial”, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterating Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism, stressing the central role of the United Nations (UN) in the statement of the most urgent challenges in the world. The Prime Minister congratulated the secretary general for his exceptional leadership in the progress of peace and world stability, and recognized the United Nations efforts to improve global governance by amplifying the voice of developing countries.
The UN Secretary General has expressed a lot of appreciation for how rescue and rescue operations were carried out during the recent floods in Pakistan. The PM Shehbaz has focused on the need for joint action concerning climate change. These actions include the supply of additional climatic finance to mitigate the impact of climate change for the most vulnerable nations, such as Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz underlined the issues of national and regional vital service for Pakistan, in particular Indian Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the violation of the Industry Water Treaty (Ti-IWT) and terrorism sponsored from the outside in Pakistan. He called for a fair and peaceful resolution of the IIOJK dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council. The Prime Minister praised the secretary general management and real efforts to defuse recent tensions between Pakistan and India.
Expressing a deep concern in the face of the critical situation in Gaza, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for efforts to make an immediate cease-fire and ending the war, providing humanitarian aid and creating a political path to an irreversible resolution leading to the Palestinian State.
Prime Minister Shehbaz has echoed Pakistan’s commitment to continue his role as a member of the United Nations Security Council and to continue to be a voice for regional and international peace and security.

The secretary general praised the influential voice of Pakistan and the vital role in the UN, including his positions in principle in the Security Council.
The PM Shehbaz is currently in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (Unga). The Prime Minister, in his 25-minute speech at Unga, included all the national, regional and international issues, including the recent Pakistani-Indian war, cashmere, Palestine, terrorism, Afghanistan, the floods in progress in Pakistan and multilateralism.
