  • The deployment of security aims to protect federal immigration facilities.
  • Trump says that ICE facilities are besieged by “domestic terrorists”.
  • Trump has made crime a major objective of his administration.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he headed the defense secretary Pete Hegseth to send troops to Portland, Oregon and to protect federal immigration facilities against “national terrorists”, saying that he authorized them to use “full force, if necessary”.

“At the request of internal security secretary, Kristi Noem, I direct the war secretary, Pete Hegseth, to provide all the troops necessary to protect the Rava War Rava Portland, and one of our siege ice facilities against the attack by Antifa and other domestic terrorists,” said Trump in a position on his social platform of truth.

The mayor of Portland, Keith Wilson, did not immediately respond to a request for comments. On Friday, during a press conference, Wilson said that an apparent influx of federal officers had not come to the request of the city and described it as overtaking and distraction.

Trump told journalists on Thursday that “crazy” were trying to burn buildings in Portland. “They are professional agitators and anarchists,” he said, without providing evidence.

Trump has made crime a major objective of his administration, even if violent crime rates have dropped in many American cities. Its repression against the municipalities led by Democrats, notably Los Angeles and Washington, has fueled legal and stimulated concerns of demonstrations.
