Eight perish in the accident on the road to Fiery Panjgur

Quetta:

At least eight people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus collided head -on with a vehicle loaded with oil on the CPEC road in the Balutchistan Panjgur district on Saturday, causing a massive fire that swallowed up the two vehicles.

Police sources said the accident was caused by speed.

The first reports confirmed five deaths, but the toll went to six after one of the injured died of burns before reaching the hospital. Later, two other victims died of their injuries, bringing the total of eight deaths.

Rescue officials told L’Express PK Press Club that the bodies and the injured had immediately been transferred to the Panjgur university hospital, where the treatment of the injured was underway. The rescue operation was then completed.

The police launched an investigation into the incident and identified speed as the preliminary cause.

The tragedy has once again revealed the dark state of road safety in Balutchistan, where mediocre road infrastructure and unfit vehicles often cause fatal accidents.

Local residents and rights defense groups have renewed calls for stricter security measures along CPEC road.

Meanwhile, rescue managers confirmed that four people had been killed in Khnuzai when a vehicle overturned after losing control.
