- The Atlassian report finds that the daily use of AI has doubled in the past year
- One in three workers admits to use the shadow (not approved) ai
- Workers save more time, but AI could in fact increase the exhaustion of workers
The IA tools having quickly gone from experimentation to implementation in many workplaces, new Atlassian research revealed that workers were about a third more productive and save around 1.4 hours a day.
The last AI collaboration index of the company revealed that the daily use of AI has almost doubled in one year, and the share of people calling “useless” AI dropped by 78%, but these gains are not quite translated into organizational increases.
Only 3% of organizations declare transformational gains in terms of organizational efficiency, 2% found increases in work quality and 4% notation of innovation improvements. Overall, most companies observe AI improving the production of individual workers, but the teams remain buffered and disconnected.
Companies still do not get the enormous AI increases that have been promised to them
The report revealed that many workers do not necessarily use this time saved to generate more work.
While 43% reinvests time on strategic thinking and planning and 41% use it for the improvement of processes, almost half (49%) use time to improve their balance between professional and privacy.
Companies are also fighting with the use of an AI not approved in the workplace (Shadow IA), which raises both security risks and also aggravates silos with different teams and workers using different tools. About one in three workers admits to use Shadow AI.
In the future, Atlassian claims that companies should start with the installation of a data foundation ready to AI to make business data accessible before setting up clear systems and expectations for teams.
However, the use of AI is not without drawbacks, as planned by the report: “AI will increase professional exhaustion unless we restrict the working day”.
With artificial intelligence removing occupied work, employees will spend more time at demanding cognitive work. Without sufficient breaks, AI by taking busy work could actually cost more time.
Atlassian says companies should anticipate future challenges and adapt accordingly.
