John Mara of Giants says he was diagnosed with cancer

John Mara, co -owner, CEO and President of the New York Giants, announced on Monday that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

The long -standing executive of 70 -year -old giants has published a declaration on social networks.

“I recently received a cancer diagnosis and followed the treatment plan recommended by an exceptional team of doctors,” said Mara.

“I feel strong and optimistic, and I undertook to see this in a positive result. I plan to stay active with the team throughout my treatment, and I am lucky to be surrounded by incredible support – personally, professionally and medically.”

Mara asked for intimacy while he undergoes treatment.

He joined the Giants in 1991 as a team general of the team and was then executive vice-president and head of the farm. His father, Wellington Mara, was the team owner until his death in 2005.

He supervised two Giants of the Super Bowl giant titles as a co -owner with Steve Tisch. Eli Manning led the two teams to victories on the Patriots of New England.

Mara owns a third generation team in the NFL. His grandfather, Tim, founded the team in 1925. Wellington and Jack Mara took over the team in 1959 when Tim Mara died.

The giants are one of the oldest teams in the NFL, next to the Bears in Chicago.
