The Giants of San Francisco dismissed the director of the veteran Bob Melvin one day after the end of the regular MLB 2025 season.
Melvin 2026’s option was recovered in July, but the Giants chose to move in a different direction.
San Francisco finished 81-81 this year, hovering on the edge of the claims of the playoffs. Despite an increase of 13-3 in August, the club weakened in September and slipped from the race.

“After a meticulous evaluation, we determined that making a leading change was in the best interest of the team,” said Baster Posey, president of the Giants’ baseball operations on Monday. “The last two months have been both disappointing and frustrating for all of us, and we have not included our standards. We are now focusing to identify a new leader to guide us.
“I’m just trying to find a different voice that can take us in a different direction.”

Melvin recognized after the end of the end of the San Francisco 4-0 season, which he had no insurance about the return, despite the exercise of his option.

“We have talked about it a lot, what are the standards for the giants, and we have high standards,” said Posey. “And I stand for these same standards. I fully understand the position in which I am now. My work and the success of the team are also evaluated accordingly. Without a doubt, you hope that there can be a consistency in these steering positions. We must return to a place where we get in the eliminatory series, we do shopping in the playoffs. This is what our deserves.”
Posey refused to put a calendar on the rental. “I want to make sure to do things well,” he said.
Melvin’s vast curriculum vitae means that he could land elsewhere. Treo manager of the year in the two leagues, he has a career record of 1,678-1.588 in 22 seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and Giants.
He went 161-163 in two seasons with San Francisco.

“I feel extremely grateful to be able to play for him, and he is the same guy every day,” said third goal player Matt Chapman. “He was stable for us, he is always honest with the players, he has our back. He did his best with what we have given him. The players, many of us have not played our abilities.”
