The Minister of Health, Mustafa Kamal, said that Pakistan was facing a shortage of nearly 900,000 nurses when he announced the complete digitization of Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
The Minister of Health presided over a meeting on PNC affairs, which the Federal Health Secretary attended and an additional secretary attended.
During the session, the ministry announced the fully digitization of the PNC to guarantee efficiency, merit and transparency in all its operations.
Speaking on occasion, Kamal stressed that all the matters of the council will soon be computerized to minimize human intervention and eliminate ineffectures.
“We will restore the lost credibility of the nursing profession and transform Pakistan Nursing Council into a modern, efficient and internationally recognized institution,” he said.
The Minister highlighted the vital role of nursing care in the Pakistan health system and underlined the urgent shortage of nursing professionals. Pakistan is currently faced with a deficit of nearly 900,000 nurses, while worldwide, the shortage of qualified nurses amounts to around 2.5 million.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthen the nursing sector through complete reforms, robust policies and modern digital systems.
He also noted that nursing is one of the most critical pillars in the health sector, and daring measures are taken to align the profession in accordance with international standards.
