ESPN host says there is “zero luck” that he is watching the network hockey game

ESPN MLB analyst, Ben McDonald, caught a little for his reaction to the promotion by the NHL’s first NHL matches of the season between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Florida Panthers.

McDonald was on call to the Wild Card series of the National League between the Cubs of Chicago and San Diego Padres when the promotion appeared.

“If you say, good luck to them,” said McDonald when he was asked if he thought that the panthers could three peats this year. “Do you wonder if I’m going to look at?

John Buccigross, who is part of the NHL ESPN cover, was one of those who took a hit at McDonald.

“Zero is also the number of sleeves in the playoffs that Ben McDonald launched in his MLB career,” he wrote on X.

McDonald explained Thursday during an appearance in “Wake Up Barsool” of Fox Sports.

“Regarding hockey stuff, when this thing appears on the screen, I will be honest, I did not even know that ESPN had the hockey contract,” he said. “I know they probably paid a dollar or two for that. I didn’t even know that it was honest with you.

“Then, when I looked at the dates, it’s a bit at the same time as the basic series baseball. And if I have the choice between pre-season or the start of the hockey and October baseball season, I probably lean slightly towards the baseball of the playoffs.”
