The AIC SB407-VA is a new 4u high density storage server built to pile up the discs. It supports 60 3.5 -inch hot bays, 8 2.5 -inch bays and 2 M.2 locations, aimed at almost 3% raw storage.
It uses Dual 4th and 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors and modern features such as DDR5 and PCIe Gen5.
Designed for AI tasks, data analysis and large -scale data lakes, the server offers several PCIe Gen5 locations, M.2 support and a NVME, SAS and SATA connectivity mixture.
Why not 3.5 inch SSD?
To keep the hardware under pressure, it uses a front -on -back flow flow, redundant hot exchange fans and redundant power supplies of 800 W.
The server includes integrated management tools to provide energy, cooling and system health, even if the machine itself is decreasing.
At 434 x 853 x 176 mm and weighing approximately 80 kg (about the same weight as washing machine), the SB407-VA packs power and storage in a compact unit that fits perfectly into a standard data center rack.
The system was built to balance the ladder and resilience, giving companies a way to combine massive storage with a modern calculation, but with all these bays dedicated to 3.5-inch readers, it made me think of something that I had never considered before-why is there no 3.5 inch SSD?
The answer (which I suspect that I already knew) is simple. SSDs simply do not need space.
Flash fleas and controllers occupy so little space that they are easily in a 2.5 -inch or smaller shape factor. Greater speakers would be mainly empty.
To fill a 3.5 inch, you will have to add more chips, and this would simply result in costs without offering real benefits of performance.
Data centers also prefer 2.5 -inch training as they allow greater capacity in a limited rack space, which makes them more practical than larger formats.
Thus, while the SB407-VA shows why the 3.5 inch berries remain essential, the SSDs will remain small, leaving these berries to turn rust.
