The High Court of the Sindh published an opinion to the Attorney General of a request filed by former President Dr Arif Alvi, requesting the allocation of a permanent official residence.
A SHC division bench resumed the petition, in which the former president argued that, under the law, he is entitled to an official residence for life after completing his mandate.
Alvi’s lawyer argued that his client, who was the 13th president of Pakistan from 2018 to 2024, was initially awarded to Bungalow No 3-A in Bath Island, Clifton. Later, Bungalow No 5-A was awarded to him. However, this last property is currently occupied by a higher customs agent, Shahab Imam, who has obtained a suspension order since 2023.

The lawyer argued that the federal government had not taken the appropriate arrangements for the former head of state and that the allocation had been made without disclosing the existing status of the bungalow. He called this attitude towards a former president as “inappropriate and unjustified”.
The petitioner prayed to the court ordering the federal government to put possession of the Bungalow on the island of Bath in Dr Alvi as an official residence. Presenting an opinion to the Attorney General, the SHC ordered him to submit a parapass response by the next hearing.
