- The iPhone 17 series has a stronger demand than Morgan Stanley is waiting
- But iPhone air is a weak link, with lower demand
- We do not know what it will mean for future potential air models
Although Apple has not revealed to what extent the iPhone 17 series sells well, it seems that, in general, it is a success, which may not be surprising since the company has refreshed the design and introduced a whole new model in the form of iPhone air.
But in fact, it is the iPhone air which is apparently the weak link of this year’s programming, according to analysts from Morgan Stanley (via Macrumors).
The company claims that the current demand for the IPhone 17 series as a whole was “modestly stronger than what we expected”, on the basis of a combination of information collected from the Apple supply chain and estimates of the shipping date on the Apple online store.
However, while the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are apparently in high demand, there is apparently the “relative weakness” of the iPhone air.
Now, it should be noted that iPhone air is not yet in China, which is a major market for Apple, so it could be a factor. But it is unlikely that this affects shipping delays – or their absence – for the phone, because the models which were intended for China – if they were even produced – would probably not be sold elsewhere.
A difficult handset
Even without the Chinese factor, it is not a big surprise that iPhone air is the weak link in terms of sales. Although some people clearly love it, it is a phone that you really have to try to be sold for yourself, because the specifications – including a single lens camera and a lesser -capacity battery – leave something to be desired.
And even having tried it, these specific compromises are likely to be too lost for many potential buyers. So it was always going to be a difficult sale.
What this means for the future of the iPhone Air Line – and if there will be more – is not clear, but with Apple launching the first foldable iPhone next year, it is credible that the company can abandon air and focus on the foldable as the fourth main model.
Again, the iPhone Mini and the iPhone and the two have obtained several outings despite similar sales difficulties, so Apple could well give one more test.
