Islamabad:
Pakistan said on Friday that India should respect the inalienable rights of the cashmere people, especially their fundamental right to self -determination, as devoted to the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
In a statement, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Pakistan believes that the path to peace and sustainable stability in South Asia is the resolution of the cashmere dispute.”
He said: “The inhabitants of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) enjoy their civil and political rights freely and actively participate in shaping their democratic future.”
He said Pakistan has remained firmly determined to maintain its dignity, to protect its rights, including the right to the assembly and peaceful protest, respecting its feelings and by progressing its socio-economic development.
“This commitment reflects not only our constitutional responsibility, but also our lasting moral obligation towards the people of Jammu-et-Cachemire,” he added.
He said: “In striking contrast, our Indian brothers and sisters illegally occupied the Jammu and the cashmere (iiojk) continue to face a dark reality under occupation.”
“The use of brute force, denial of fundamental freedoms and systematic and serious violations of human rights have become the brand brand of terrorism sponsored by the state of India against the innocent cashmere people to suppress their right struggle”, he continued, adding, “the efforts for the silence of dissent, demographic engineering and the denial of civil freedoms inferior to the severity of the situation.”
He said: “Rather than launching unjustified aspersions on the AJK, India must count with its obligations under international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”
