The Oklahoma Sooners receiver, Keontez Lewis, left Saturday’s match against Kent State early after suffering a frightening injury while trying to take a catch.
Lewis tried to follow a quarter-back ball Michael Hawkins Jr. who was thrown above his head at the first quarter. He ended up at the back of the goal area when he caught it but fell and crashed the first in the brick wall that bordered the goal area of the Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
On Tuesday, Oklahoma confirmed its intention to install a padding around the brick wall.
Oklahoma coach Brent Venables said the details are not yet clear.

“I don’t know exactly when or how much and all of this,” British Venable Brent on Tuesday. “But I think they will put a padding in this brick area where we are vulnerable.”

In the current state of things, most of the wall surrounding the field is not padded – including areas very close to the limits.
Lewis was briefly motionless and was transported after being followed for about 10 minutes last Saturday. The Sooners then defeated Kent State 44-0.

During its weekly radio program, Venables shared an encouraging update on the recovery of Lewis.
“I was terrified because it didn’t look good at all,” said Venables. “Really lucky, well considered – very lucky. He is in a good mood and feels much better. Really, really not even a scratch.”
