NYT Strands today (game #587) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #587, are…
- PEACOCK
- ARQUES
- APPLE
- BUBBLE EYE
- SHELL
- SWOOSH
- SPANGRAM: ICONICLOGOS
- My rating: Easy
- My rating: Perfect
All these ICONICLOGOS have the same thing in common: we do not need to know the names of the companies to recognize the brands.
Their power is such that Target’s BULLSEYE and NBC’s PEACOCK are known beyond the United States, while the others are ubiquitous throughout the world.
Given their fame, it’s incredible to think of the humble origins of many of these logos. The Nike SWOOSH, for example, was created by a graphic design student called Carolyn Davidson. The apocryphal story is that she only received $35 for her work, but several years later the company gifted her stock that was worth $85 at the time but could have cashed in as much as $3 million by 2023 – so it’s not such a bad salary after all.
