Famous Indian bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman died earlier this week at the age of 42 after suffering a cardiac arrest during surgery.
Indian newspaper The Tribune said Ghuman ruptured a muscle in his chest, leading to his hospitalization at Fortis Hospital in Amritsar.
Other Indian media outlets, via People, reported that Ghuman suffered from shoulder pain before being admitted to the hospital.

The bodybuilder was named Mr. India in 2009 and secured second place for Mr. Asia in the same year. Arnold Schwarzenegger hired him to promote his health products in Asia, and he was the first Indian to receive a professional card from the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).

Ghuman appeared in four films, including “Tiger 3”, which grossed ₹466 crore, or about $52 million, at the box office. He also competed in the Arnold Classic.
“Hearing the news of the sudden demise of famous bodybuilder and actor from Punjab, Virender Singh Ghuman ji, has left my heart very saddened,” senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa told X via translation. “Through his hard work, discipline and abilities, he lit up the name of Punjab across the world. May Waheguru ji grant his soul the eternal abode at his feet and give strength to the family to bear this sad blow.”

At one point, Ghuman, who was 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighed 287 pounds.
