LAHORE:
Participants at a convention rejected the 26th constitutional amendment, declaring it an attack on the supremacy of the Constitution and the independence of the judiciary.
The All-Pakistan Lawyers’ Convention, held at the Lahore High Court Bar on Friday, passed a unanimous resolution declaring that the 26th Amendment destroys constitutional order and judicial freedom.
The resolution affirmed that the legal community would continue its fight until the amendment was completely repealed. He said the lawyers would not accept any court verdict in favor of the amendment, promising that their movement would persist “until the Constitution is fully restored to Pakistan.”
A large number of senior lawyers and bar representatives from across the country attended the conference, reaffirming their unity and commitment to upholding the rule of law, judicial independence and constitutional supremacy.
A CB of the Supreme Court will resume hearing petitions filed against the 26th Constitutional Amendment which was bulldozed through Parliament in October last year and which introduced sweeping changes in the judiciary, including the formation of CBs.
