Rice Owls cornerback Khary Crump was ejected during the team’s loss to the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday night.
Crump was trying to make a stop on defense with the rest of his teammates when he was seen throwing a punch while in the huddle on the court. As the referees attempted to stop play, Crump was seen pushing a referee. This led to his expulsion.

The Christian transfer from Houston apologized for his actions in an article on X.
“I apologize, Rice Nation, I have let you down,” Crump wrote. “For you to open your arms and give me another opportunity, that’s all I can ask for. My actions in this game are unacceptable, but it wasn’t malicious intent to throw me into the pile, it was trying to get the ball out.
“I didn’t realize the ref was catching me until it was done.”
Crump made two tackles before being ejected from the game.
He joined Rice as a graduate transfer. The California native began his college career at Arizona before playing one season each at Michigan State and Houston Christian. He had 14 total tackles and six assists this season.
