Fusaka upgrade is live on Sepolia Testnet

Ethereum developers launched the second test of the upcoming Fusaka upgrade early Tuesday morning on the Sepolia network, marking another step toward the upgrade’s debut on mainnet.

The test follows a successful deployment to the Holesky testnet two weeks ago. The developers are planning a final rehearsal on the Hoodi network on October 28, after which they will set a date to activate Fusaka on the main Ethereum blockchain.

Arriving just months after Ethereum’s major Pectra upgrade, Fusaka is designed to reduce costs for institutions using the network. One of its key features, PeerDAS, allows validators to verify only parts of data rather than entire “blobs.” This improvement reduces bandwidth demands and helps reduce costs for Layer 2 networks and validators.

Testnets like Sepolia play a crucial role in the Ethereum development cycle, providing developers with a reliable environment to test upgrades in real-world conditions before they go live on the mainnet.

Holesky, however, has started to show signs of aging and is expected to be obsolete soon. Its successor, Hoodi, launched earlier this year, is designed to more closely mirror Ethereum’s mainnet. The upcoming Hoodi Test should be the most telling indicator of Fusaka’s performance once it goes live.
