The Pope may be spreading positivity and love to everyone, but one Chicago Cubs fan heard a playful jab from the world’s most recognizable Chicago White Sox fan.

Pope Leo XIV made an appearance at the Vatican on Wednesday, and he was seen standing in his papal vehicle, greeting the crowd of thousands who came to see him.

Vatican media captured a moment when someone in the crowd was heard shouting: “Go Cubs!” He may be the Pope now, but the lifelong White Sox fan in him has given his answer.

“Han perdido!” he shouted in Spanish. “They lost!”

The Cubs’ season just ended in the NLDS against the Milwaukee Brewers, who eliminated them from the playoffs in five games. The Cubs struggled in the series in the Windy City, but ultimately couldn’t get the win in Milwaukee needed to send them to the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But of course, the Cubs had a lot more wins than the White Sox this season. The Cubs finished with 92 wins, while the White Sox struggled with just 60 and 102 losses to boot.

Robert Francis Prevost was named the first pope of the United States, and when his Chicago heritage was revealed, there was an immediate need to know which teams he supported. Although the Cubs initially claimed he was a supporter of their ball club, his brother told NBC Chicago that he was a White Sox fan through and through.

“Anyone who talked about the Cubs on the radio was wrong,” John Prevost said. “It’s Sox.”

To prove this point, a video was found of Pope attending the 2005 World Series between the White Sox and the Houston Astros.

Finally, the Pope was seen donning a White Sox hat while wearing his white robe in June.

The head of the Catholic Church must remain biased in many other cases, but the White Sox fan in him will never fade, it seems.
