China and Russia have welcomed the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan brokered by Qatar and Turkey.
China welcomes the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan and congratulates relevant countries for their contributions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
The two countries are China’s traditional friendly neighbors, Jiakun said, adding that the two countries will always be neighbors of each other, responding to a question during his regular press briefing.
“We sincerely hope that the two countries will continue to properly manage their differences through dialogue and consultation, achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the two countries and the broader region,” he noted.
Jiakun said the Chinese side also supports his efforts in this direction. Along with the international community, China is ready to continue to play a constructive role for the improvement and development of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, he said.
Meanwhile, Russia on Monday welcomed a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan brokered by Qatar and Turkey.
“We welcome the mutual ceasefire agreement along the Afghan-Pakistani border, reached between Kabul and Islamabad with the mediation of the Qatari and Turkish authorities,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a statement.
Zakharova argued that the intention of Islamabad and Kabul to engage in dialogue and resolve their disagreements through diplomatic means “forms the basis for maintaining peace between the two countries, which are friendly to us, and is an important factor in ensuring regional security.”
“We call on Kabul and Islamabad to expand their cooperation, especially in the fight against terrorism,” Zakharova added.
