- Netflix releases first trailer for season 5 of Emily in Paris
- Changes the title of the series to Emily in Rome in its final moments
- All episodes are scheduled to release on December 18
The first trailer for Emilie in Paris season 5 is here, and we get our first glimpse of Emily’s (Lily Collins) big happy life after moving to Rome in the hit Netflix series.
The first trailer for Season 5 shows that pretty much everyone — Mindy (Ashley Park), Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), Luc (Bruno Gouery), and Julian (Samuel Arnold) — has followed Emily to Italy, begging Julian to ask the question: “If we’re all here… who’s in Paris?”
That’s a great question, but one I don’t want to know the answer to yet. If you feel the same way I do about Emily being in a much better position to start a new life in Rome, the Emilie in Paris The Season 5 trailer gives us a fantastic hint that this decision might be more final than initially thought.
Opinion: I need Emily in Paris season 5 to really be Emily in Rome season 1, and the trailer has delivered
Look on it
Everything about Emily’s life in Paris bothered me: the lack of personal and professional development, the constant lack of communication between her and Gabriel, allowing herself to be overshadowed by her friends and colleagues. There’s only so much of this stuff you can take, and by season 4, I had reached my limit.
When Emily went to Rome for the first time in the second part of season 4, it was like a light went on. She definitely seemed happier in her own skin, she was more assertive and sure of what she wanted. It was like she was trying on a pair of shoes for the first time that gave her enough room to grow.
That’s exactly what Season 5’s change of location signals: growth. Obviously you can’t run away from your problems, but it looks like Netflix agrees with me when it comes to Paris giving Emily everything she had to offer.
If you wait until the last few seconds of the new trailer, you’ll see the Emilie in Paris logo deleted and replaced by Emilia in Rome. It’s a sign that the change in Emily’s personal life is more permanent than we thought, and it’s sweet music to my ears.
Even if nothing particularly dramatic happens in Season 5 (and I’m sure it will), I think grounding and clarity are the right steps to take. Of course, the supporting cast can be in as much chaos as they want, but Emily needs something more stable so we can get the most out of her.
However, this is a Netflix show, so I’m not going to take this moment for granted. As the full synopsis for Season 5 says, “Just as everything comes together, a job idea backfires, and the fallout turns to heartbreak and career setbacks. Seeking stability, Emily leans into her French lifestyle, until a big secret threatens one of her closest relationships.”
Sigh…I guess I can’t have it all. In the meantime, I hope that all roads lead to Rome, even if we have to take a French detour along the way.
