At DC, Darkseid is billed as the main villain, but his entry into the new franchise won’t happen, studio co-head James Gunn said.
He explains his reasoning for not including the antagonist in an interview with New rockstarssharing that the Lord of Apokolips has a similarity to Marvel’s nemesis Thanos.
“The aspects of Darkseid and Thanos are obviously very similar,” he adds. “They look a lot alike, and because of that, I think to probably give you more answers than you expected, using Darkseid as the big bad right now isn’t necessarily the answer, for a lot of reasons.”
“Because Zack did it so cool in his own way and thanks to Thanos and Marvel,” the filmmaker says, referring to Zack Snyder, who previously directed the DCEU films.
Earlier, James shed some light on his plans for the next Superman installment. “Man of Tomorrow was an idea I had for a long time. I think I know the next films I’m going to make, so I already know, frankly.”
“Because it’s part of the plan for the DCU, there’s a big story. On the one hand, I want it to go well so I can watch it on my own,” he concluded.
