Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney accused President Donald Trump of being “afraid” of placing a sports bet on the upcoming World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
“I think he’s afraid to take a gamble,” Carney joked to The Associated Press on Thursday. “He doesn’t like to lose. He hasn’t called. He hasn’t called me back on the bet yet, so I’m ready. We’re ready to bet with the United States.”
Carney predicted the Blue Jays would win in six games.

“The country is so excited. I think the world is excited for this show,” Carney said. “It’s going to go deep. It’s going to be a good series. But we have depth, we have fire. You see the performance.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked whether Trump was betting on sports during Thursday’s press briefing, during a question about the FBI’s arrest of three NBA figures as part of a wide-ranging investigation into illegal gambling.
“You know. I’m not sure. I don’t think that’s the case. I’ve been with him for a while and I’ve never seen him play before,” Leavitt said. “I don’t think he’s a great player.”
