Jim Parsons remembers one of the most uncertain moments of The Big Bang Theory first days.
In a new conversation with Us every weekthe actor, who played Sheldon Cooper, recalled when the cast feared the show would never return after the writers’ strike shut down production during its first season.
“I remember our first season, after seven or eight episodes, the writers went on strike and they told us we were going to leave. We weren’t going to do any more until it was over,” he recalls.
“It shocked us all,” he continued.
“It wasn’t about fearing for our jobs. It was more that we already really enjoyed this show and really felt like we had something.”
Parsons said the break ended up being a blessing in disguise: “It ended up working in our favor.”
“More people were able to watch us in replays and [when] we came back to [it]it became a bigger thing, but we didn’t know it at the time.
He added: “We all knew in our hearts that we were part of something special – and the way the business operates could have derailed it.”
In conclusion, he said: “We were very lucky. »
