Lahore traffic police crack down on unicycles

LAHORE:

The Lahore Traffic Police have intensified their action against ‘one-wheelers’, with social media users posting videos of dangerous stunts now also facing legal consequences.

According to the CTO of Lahore, Dr. Athar Waheed, the cyber patrol team of the Lahore Traffic Police is monitoring unicycles across the city round the clock. He warned that videos promoting such stunts would not be tolerated and legal action could be taken against those who post or share them for publicity purposes.

The strict enforcement follows a recent incident in Ichhra, where a video of a boy, a girl and their group performing a wheelie ride went viral on social media.

An FIR was immediately registered under several legal provisions, including rash and negligent driving (Section 279 PPC), driving without a valid license (Section 99-A, Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965), obstructing police functions (Sections 138 and 141, Police Ordinance 2002) and public nuisance (Section 294 PPC).

The FIR, registered at Ichhra police station on October 22, named senior traffic officer of Ichra sector Shahid Abbass Ranja as the complainant.

The incident occurred on October 23 at 8 a.m., when a motorcyclist riding a 125 cc motorcycle refused to cooperate during a routine traffic stop, created a public disorder and prevented the traffic warden from carrying out his duties.
