Virgin River season 7 is on the way, but although filming has officially wrapped, we don’t have a release date…yet. If you’re eagerly awaiting the return of this small-town drama filled with romance and revelations, I hope you don’t have to wait too long.
Before we go any further, here’s everything we know so far about Virgin River season 7 cast confirmed, expected release date, plot rumors, news and more.
Virgin River season 7: is there a release date?
Virgin River season 7 is definitely on the way, but we don’t know when enough again, but there have been some clues. In October 2024, the cast confirmed that the series would return for another season with “more love, drama and small-town charm to come.”
And filming began in March 2025 with some behind-the-scenes photos shared on the series’ Instagram, and, after an Instagram post from Benjamin Hollingsworth, aka Brady, it was confirmed that filming officially wrapped in June.
But when it comes to the release date, the biggest clue we’ve gotten so far comes from Andrea Breckenridge (Mel Monroe herself) when she spoke with Entertainment Weekly in mid-October: “There’s a lot going on this year for Netflix. Stranger Things because a series is going to be a big deal.
“If I were a smart person, I would say I wouldn’t ride Virgin River until the new year. » So it seems to be 2026.
Virgin River season 7: has a trailer been released?
As with most returning Netflix shows, the Virgin River The Season 7 trailer will no doubt be released about a month before its release on the streamer.
Since it appears to be early 2026 now, although it hasn’t been confirmed, I imagine a trailer won’t come out until late 2025 or early 2026 at best. I’ll keep my eyes peeled and update here as soon as it arrives.
Virgin River season 7: casting confirmed
Thanks to Tudum, we have a confirmed casting list for Virgin River season 7, as well as two new characters joining the series:
- Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe
- Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan
- Tim Matheson as Vernon Mullins
- Annette O’Toole as Hope McCrea
- Colin Lawrence as John ‘Preacher’ Middleton
- Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady
- Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan
- Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie
- Marco Grazzini as Mike
- Kai Bradbury as Denny Cutler
- Kandyse McClure as Kaia
- Sara Canning as Victoria
- Cody Kearsley as Clay
As for new additions joining Virgin River season 7, there is fortunately a lot of information on their roles.
According to Tudum, Sara Canning joins the group as “ex-cop Victoria, who was shot in the line of duty and now works for the state medical board as an investigator. Victoria comes to Virgin River to investigate Doc’s practice but meets a friend she wouldn’t hesitate to track down…or maybe even pursue something more.”
While Cody Kearsley joins us as “Tough, athletic Clay. The kind of guy who gets noticed when he walks into a room, Clay has experience on the rodeo circuit. He grew up in foster care with his younger sister, whom he hasn’t seen since he was a teenager. He’s been looking for her ever since.”
While Tudum’s roster doesn’t include everyone we’d expect to see, like Teryl Rothery who plays Muriel, we’re sure there will be a place for her and many other returning actors in Virgin River season 7.
Who won’t be returning, at least as a series regular, is Muriel’s ex-lover Dr. Cameron (Mark Ghanime). Speaking to TVLine, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed: “He will still be a part of the world, and I would love to see his character again, but he unfortunately won’t be a series regular in season 7.”
Virgin River season 7: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers for Virgin River seasons 1 to 6 to follow.
Virgin River Season 6 saw Mel and Jack finally get married, Preacher cleared of all charges, and a shock finale that ended in a gasp. And as for season 7, Smith told Tudum, “I think we’re just starting to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting.
Adding that season 7: “will explore the honeymoon phase for them as they build their life on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles.”
It’s no secret that Mel and Jack have dealt with some upheaval, including the devastating loss of their baby in season 5, but one thing is for sure when it comes to the couple, they are built to last. Smith says: “I can’t imagine creating a scenario where you think Mel and Jack are going to break up.
“It forces you to dig a little deeper, well, what other problems might they have in their relationship? Especially when you want to keep it through the lens of romance. I think Alex and Martin play up all those problems. [moments so well]it simply relies on emotional issues rather than “will they, won’t they”.
Of course, Mel and Jack aren’t the only lovebirds in Virgin River and small-town romances have been commonplace throughout the series. There’s Hope and Doc, Preacher and Kaia, and Lizzie and Denny expecting their first baby, all of whom have been confirmed to return for season 7.
But there was a cliffhanger Virgin River season 6 finale that fans are waiting to be addressed. As Jack goes to Charmaine’s house to check on her and the twins, fathered by career criminal Calvin, he arrives at a seemingly empty house, but when he goes to check on the children, he gasps. And that’s the end of season 6.
Although Tudum hasn’t confirmed Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) return, it looks like we’re going to get some answers, as Breckenridge told EW: “I know [what makes him gasp]. But I can’t tell you. This is too important a thing. I couldn’t.” And now I want Virgin River season 7 now more than ever.
But that’s not the only drama that emerged from the Season 6 finale, and Breckenridge explains, “My favorite cliffhanger was when Mike tells Brie that he knows she slept with Brady. I was like, ‘What? He knows she slept with someone else and he still wants to marry her. What is this about?'”
Of course, there’s also Mel and Jack’s desire to have a baby together, and it seems the couple might consider adoption, especially since Marley (Rachel Drance) told Mel she wanted her to have his baby in season 6.
And Breckenridge says Season 6 isn’t the end: “The story with Marley and the baby doesn’t disappear in Season 7. It’s pretty plentiful. I can’t tell you what’s going on with it, but I can tell you it doesn’t disappear. It’s still there, and it’s something that Jack and I have to go through. It brings things up, for sure.”
Will there be more seasons of Virgin River?
Excellent news, Virgin River season 8 has already been confirmed with Smith telling Tudum: “On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we are forever grateful to Netflix and the fans for allowing us to continue this journey with these beloved characters. »
This is an early renewal given Virgin River season 7 doesn’t even have a release date and the news makes the series Netflix’s longest-running original scripted series, as well as the longest-running English-language drama series.
People want Virgin River and apparently, they’re going to get it!
