Jamie Lee Curtis said her reaction to Charlie Kirk’s death was “mistranslated.”
The 66-year-old actress got emotional when she appeared on the show WTF with Marc Maron podcast after the murder of the US conservative activist last month, but denied she supported Kirk’s controversial views.
Jamie said Variety: “One excerpt mistranslated what I was saying because I was wishing him well – as if I was talking about him in a very positive way, which I wasn’t; I was just talking about his faith in God. And so it was a mistranslation, which is a play on words, but it’s not.”
She continued: “In today’s binary world, you cannot have two ideas at the same time: I cannot be Jewish and completely believe in Israel’s right to exist and at the same time reject the destruction of Gaza.
“You can’t say that, because you’re vilified for having a mind that says, ‘I can have these two thoughts. I can be contradictory in this way,'” he said. Weird Friday star mentioned.
Jamie also proudly stated that she was happy to speak out and did not intend to be “careful” when expressing her views.
She said: “I don’t need to be careful.”
“If I had been paying attention, I wouldn’t have told you anything I just told you. I would have just said, ‘Hi, welcome. I made you banana bread. This is my dog. This is my house, blah, blah, blah. What do you want to know?’ I can’t not be who I am in the moment that I am,” concluded Jamie Lee Curtis.
