Introduces online booking for prison visits

The app allows visitors to schedule meetings with prisoners without referrals, except for high-profile inmates

The Punjab Prisons Department has introduced a mobile application to facilitate advance bookings to meet inmates of all prisons in the province, including the Adiala Central Jail, officials said on Friday.

According to prison officials, the app allows family members and other visitors to schedule meetings with prisoners and undertrial detainees without any referrals or intermediaries. The system will also send notifications in case a scheduled meeting is canceled for security or administrative reasons.

The app, now available for download on the Google Play Store, aims to make the visiting process more transparent and efficient. An official notification of its implementation has been distributed to all prison superintendents in Punjab.

Officials said staff responsible for the Prisoner Management Information System (PMIS) at each facility have received special training to use the new platform. Operational orientation videos were also provided for internal use.

To help visitors unfamiliar with the process, dedicated staff will be deployed to prison waiting sheds to help them make online bookings. Separate facilitation desks will also be set up for those who pre-book their meetings using the app.

However, officials clarified that traditional meeting protocols will continue to apply to high-level inmates and hardened criminals for security reasons.
