SMU pulled off a stunning upset of No. 10 Miami in overtime, beating the Hurricanes 26-20 Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

Miami got the ball back first during overtime, but quarterback Carson Beck was intercepted just short of the goal line, giving SMU a chance to win it on the ensuing possession. It was one of Beck’s two interceptions of the day.

A field goal would have been enough to win the game, but SMU relied on running back TJ Harden to win the game. Harden hit it from a yard out to seal SMU’s upset victory.

SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee signed a seven-year contract extension Friday and immediately stood out in the team’s first game after the new deal.

Lashlee’s defense kept Beck and Miami’s high-powered offense in check throughout the match. On the offensive side, quarterback Kevin Jennings shined. Jennings completed 29 of 44 passes for 365 yards and a touchdown.
