World Series anthem performers receive cheers

Pia Toscano and Noah Reid sang their respective countries’ national anthems Saturday night before the first pitch of Game 7 of the World Series – and absolutely brought the house down.

Toscano, an “American Idol” contestant, performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” and Reid, who is a dual American and Canadian citizen, sang “O Canada.”

“See you all tonight!” Game 7 of the World Series! Toscano wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories. “I am so honored to sing the American anthem.”

Reid also posted photos of himself on the field at the Rogers Center.

“I am so honored to be able to sing O Canada tonight during Game 7 of the World Series,” he captioned the Instagram post. “Everyone who knows me knows my unconditional love for the Blue Jays. I am so proud of this team, this city, this country, and it is the honor of my life to be able to be a part of this historic moment. LET’S GO BLUE JAYS!!!!”

Players and managers from both teams stood with their caps over their hearts as the two songs were sung.

The Blue Jays nearly beat the Dodgers in Game 6 Friday night, but the valiant comeback attempt failed in the ninth inning as Los Angeles managed to turn in a game-ending double play.

Toronto is looking to win its first World Series since 1993. Los Angeles is hoping to become the first repeat champion since the New York Yankees did so in 1999 and 2000.
