21 people were arrested, 291 tonnes of flour and 28 tonnes of wheat were recovered

To prevent illegal transportation and smuggling of wheat and flour in Rawalpindi, the Food Department and Rawalpindi Police have set up joint checkpoints at 8 different locations. CCTV cameras were installed for surveillance and a crackdown was also launched.
Already, 21 cases have been recorded, 21 people have been arrested and 291 tonnes of flour and 28 tonnes of wheat have been recovered.
When contacted by Express, District Food Controller Muhammad Ramzan said there is no restriction on transportation of flour, however, it is mandatory for those transporting flour and wheat to obtain a permit and during enforcement, action is taken against those who transport flour illegally without a permit.
According to Rawalpindi police officials, joint teams of the Food Department and police also seized vehicles used for flour smuggling. Measures against flour and wheat smuggling were taken in Chakri, Taxila, Saddar Wah areas and at the airport.
Officials said special cameras have been installed on all entry and exit routes from the city, while 8 special stakes have also been installed. The officials said, “Effective surveillance is being carried out on flour and wheat smuggling. Those involved cannot escape the clutches of law; prevention of flour and wheat smuggling is being ensured as per the instructions of the Punjab government.”
