- Google offers Chat to Meet from November 2025
- Document sharing is supported to create a more complete picture of the meeting
- External participants can access the chat, but not outside the meeting window
Google will soon integrate Meet and Chat more tightly to ensure more seamless communication, helping those who may not be able to make all the calls.
Messages, comments, links, and other shared resources will now be retrieved by Chat during Google Meet calls and can be viewed after the meeting closes.
The integration also brings some popular features to Meet, including emoji reactions and image/file sharing powered by Google Chat.
“Participants can send prereads and other meeting materials to the group before the meeting in Google Chat, and these resources will be available in Google Meet throughout the call,” the company explained in a blog post.
Google explained that the change was intended to “improve post-meeting follow-up,” making it easier for attendees to summarize key points and action items.
Chat integration with Meet is currently only available for business and enterprise customers of Google Workspace, not personal accounts. Enterprise Essentials/Essentials Plus/Starter/Standard/Plus, Business Starter/Standard/Plus, and Frontline Starter/Standard/Plus will be the first customers to have access to the new feature.
Google also highlighted that the full rollout could take between 15 and 30 days, depending on account type.
It’s also worth noting that the feature is designed for calls scheduled in Google Calendar; Meeting organizers can still turn off the feature, but they must do so before the call begins from the Google Calendar event video call options screen.
“These messages… will follow the retention policies and data loss prevention (DLP) rules that you have set up for Google Chat,” Google added.
For external participants, chat is only available to participants during the call to maintain data security.
