Netflix has publicly released the first footage, images and voices of Stranger Things: Tales from 1985.
To celebrate Stranger Things Day 2025, the streaming giant has revealed new details about the popular series’ first spin-off. This includes a first look at the aesthetic of his Saturday morning cartoon-style show via an official image and new footage from Tales from 1985 via a behind-the-scenes featurette, which you can check out below.
Look on it
We already knew that Netflix was developing a Stranger Things animated spin-off, but this is the first time that the best streaming service in the world has really lifted the veil on a series developed by Eric Robles (Glitch Techniques, Fanboy and Chum Chum) and produced by franchise overlords Matt and Ross Duffer.
Indeed, apart from its exhibition at the 2025 edition of the Annecy Festival in June, Netflix hesitated to show us or tell us more about the first. Stranger Things project that will expand the universe in new and surprising ways.
There are some things we knew Tales from 1985 however, before this latest revelation. Netflix had already confirmed that it would arrive sometime in 2026, take place between the second and third seasons of the main series, and take place during the winter of 1985. Additionally, it will feature many of the characters from the top Netflix series and include an original character called Nikki Baxter (voice actor TBC).
Now we know who is part of Tales from 1985The voice cast of – and none of the actors who are part of the main series returned to portray their characters in animated form.
- Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper
- Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven
- Luca Diaz as Mike Wheeler
- Ben Plessala as Will Byers
- Elisha ‘EJ’ Williams as Lucas Sinclair
- Braxton Quinney as Dustin Henderson
- Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max Mayfield
- Odessa A’zion as to be confirmed
- Janeane Garofalo as TBC
- Lou Diamond Phillips as TBC
In some ways, it makes sense that Netflix would hire new faces to voice these characters. After all, the kids on the show are all grown up now, so you can’t have, say, Caleb McLaughlin voicing the kid version of Lucas anymore. Still, I’m sure some fans will be disappointed and/or confused by the prospect of their favorite character being voiced by someone else.
With Stranger Things With season 5 set to premiere on November 26, this year’s Stranger Things Day is the last time fans will have the chance to celebrate one of the biggest Netflix TV originals of all time before it ends.
There will definitely be others Stranger Things season 5 is revealed before the end of the day. On the one hand, would it be too much to ask for official news on the live-action spin-off whose star Finn Wolfhard correctly guessed the broad outlines? Either way, stay tuned to TechRadar for more details on this.
