LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has reiterated the party’s demand for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, saying he strongly opposes the 27th constitutional amendment.
Speaking at the Lahore High Court, Gohar expressed concern over the judicial backlog, saying 2.3 million cases are pending before the subordinate judiciary across the country, including 814,000 criminal cases. In Punjab alone, he noted, 275,000 criminal cases remain unresolved.
He said the growing wait reflects a justice system under strain and underscores the urgent need for institutional reforms.
Regarding the political situation, Gohar stressed that the PTI would continue to seek legal remedies for the release of its founding president.
“We will continue to seek his (Imran’s) release in court,” he said.
“When political leaders meet, they talk about the country and parliament,” he added, noting that “there is nothing unusual if someone visits Shah Mehmood Qureshi, especially when he is not feeling well.”
