Alex Winter talks about the rare and enduring bond he shares with his longtime friend and collaborator Keanu Reeves.

In a new conversation with The GuardianWinter said he appreciated the fact that there was “no bullshit” between them, a foundation that has remained strong since their Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure days.

The duo recently reunited for a Broadway rebirth of Waiting for Godotand Winter, 60, admitted that getting into the production only seemed possible because he was doing it alongside Reeves, who he called his “lifeline.”

“I knew it was a massive undertaking, and the only reason I thought we could pull it off was because we were both together,” he said.

The actor added that working with Reeves brings “an immediate sense of comfort. I know I can trust him and he can trust me. We really support each other. There’s no bulls***.”

Additionally, Winter later compared their creative rhythm to “being in a band,” describing a fluid exchange.

“It’s this free-flowing exchange. Sometimes I’m cooking and he’s catching up. Sometimes I’m catching up and he’s cooking.”

“Sometimes we help each other out of a hole. Sometimes we’re just on a fucking groove and we look at each other and say, ‘Damn, that was good! Where the hell did that come from?'”
