The issue of appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the Senate took a new turn on Saturday when a PTI delegation met Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and demanded an immediate decision on the issue.
According to sources, the PTI delegation, led by lawyer Ali Zafar, stressed that the appointment of the opposition leader should not be further delayed as it is a legitimate parliamentary right of the opposition.
“We have already submitted the required signatures…the Leader of Opposition should now be informed,” PTI members reportedly told the Senate President.
Lawyer Ali Zafar said the delay in the appointment amounted to a breach of opposition privilege. “The opposition right is being undermined,” he said.
