Pakistan and the United States on Saturday reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen their bilateral relations, with both sides emphasizing the need to translate recent high-level political resolve into tangible cooperation in economic and strategic areas.

The development follows a meeting between Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, and S. Paul Kapur, the new US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, who took office on October 22.

The discussions, held at the State Department, were described by both sides as cordial and forward-looking.

Ambassador Sheikh said the meeting focused on “practical ways” to convert commitments made at the leadership level into a lasting partnership.

“We discussed ways and means of translating the determination – expressed at the leadership level – to develop Pakistan-US relations into an economically anchored strategic partnership, through sustained engagement in multiple areas of mutual interest,” the envoy said in a message on X.

Kapur, in his own post on X, said it was a “pleasure” to meet the Pakistani ambassador. “We discussed ways to advance U.S.-Pakistan relations and make our countries more prosperous and secure,” he added.
