RAWALPINDI:
The Rawalpindi District Bar Association has warned that if the administration fails to resolve the ongoing issues regarding the Kacheri Chowk widening and renovation project within two days, lawyers will forcibly open the closed roads on November 10.
The association said it had closely monitored the project from the beginning and cooperated with district authorities and other stakeholders.
In the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) and Deputy Commissioner (Cantonment), the areas belonging to the bar were marked and handed over for construction.
The old Hamza block, mosque and adjoining rooms have been demolished as per the marking, and reconstruction of the concerned mosque is being carried out by the bar on a self-help basis. Affected lawyers have also begun rebuilding their firms.
However, the association accused the administration of failing to provide alternative routes and parking, thereby causing immense problems for lawyers, court staff and litigants.
They warned authorities not to exceed the agreed limits and demanded the immediate allocation of replacement land, construction of the promised parking lot and compensation for destroyed property.
The bar’s leadership warned that any coercive action by the administration would be resisted, holding authorities responsible for any confrontation.
With the start of work on the project, the city traffic police said commuters traveling from Rawat via Jhelum Road towards the old airport would take Bahria Phase 1 and High Court Road.
Those heading from Jhelum Road towards Peshawar Road and the new airport would take Morgah Turn and other routes.
