The family of PML-N Senator Irfan ul Haq Siddiqui has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that the veteran parliamentarian was put on a ventilator, instead confirming that he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) for breathing-related complications.

Clarifying his condition on Monday, the family said that although Siddiqui’s breathing problems necessitated a transfer to the intensive care unit, doctors did not deem respiratory assistance necessary. They added that his vital signs remained stable and medical staff were closely monitoring his progress.

Rumors about the senator’s health began circulating earlier today, sparking concern among party colleagues and supporters. The family stressed that unverified information had caused unnecessary concern and asked the public to only rely on information shared officially by relatives or medical professionals.

Siddiqui was admitted to a local hospital in Islamabad in recent days. The nature of the respiratory problem requiring treatment has not been made public.

A long-time columnist and political commentator, Siddiqui currently serves in the Senate as a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. He previously served as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Affairs.

The family asked for prayers for his recovery and said further updates would be shared as appropriate.
