The Los Angeles Chargers defense made Aaron Rodgers’ performance difficult as the Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the AFC West team 25-10 on Sunday night.

Rodgers was his own worst critic after the game ended as he bemoaned his 16 completions for 161 yards, one touchdown pass, two interceptions and a fumble that he recovered, albeit in his own end zone for a safety. The Chargers fired Rodgers three times.

“It wasn’t my best performance,” he said via ESPN. “I have to play better than that for us to win. Whatever it is…if it’s better controls, if it’s better shots, whatever it is, I have to play better. I will. … We have to play better offense, that’s for sure. But it’s part of the season.

“There are ebbs and flows, ups and downs, and we can’t ride the wave.”

Rodgers fumbled the ball in his own end zone while trying to avoid the rush in the first quarter. He got it back but it cost Pittsburgh two points.

“I haven’t really seen anyone open,” Rodgers said. “I felt like when I stepped in, I saw Mack, and I didn’t realize he kind of lost contact with (right tackle) Troy (Fautanu).”

He struggled to connect with wide receiver DK Metcalf. He opened up Metcalf near the goal line but knocked him down. Then, in the second quarter, he knocked down Metcalf again. This time, Chargers safety RJ Mickens was there for the interception.

CHARGERS DISMAKE STEELERS TO WIN A THIRD STRAIGHT MATCH IN DOMINANT FASHION

Rodgers completed just one pass in the third quarter. Los Angeles led 15-3 early in the third quarter and Pittsburgh was fortunate to have at least six on the board. But multiple incompletions led to declining turnover.

It was that kind of evening.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin ran the offense as a collective rather than kicking Rodgers while he was down. He sidestepped a question about how he would rate Rodgers’ performance.

Rodgers’ only touchdown pass was to Roman Wilson in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Steelers recognized the need to play better with the NFL season in their back half.
