- Former employee Jinfeng Luo accused of stealing around 18,000 secret Intel files
- Luo worked with Intel for about a decade before being fired
- Attempts to locate Luo have so far failed.
Former Intel software engineer Jinfeng Luo was accused of stealing around 18,000 Intel files, including data labeled “Top Secret”, after leaving the company, according to Mercury news.
Luo joined the company in 2014 and was served notice of termination in July 2024, but the company has since pursued the former worker with a lawsuit to recover his records.
The report claims that Luo attempted to copy files a week before leaving, but that this was blocked by the company’s security measures.
Intel’s top secrets have been stolen
Despite the initial failure, Luo managed to transfer files to a network-connected storage device three days before departure.
Intel reportedly detected these transfers shortly afterward, before spending several months calling, sending emails and letters to the former employee, but to no avail.
The company is now seeking $250,000 in damages as well as the return of all stolen files – a process it is already experiencing after another former employee was convicted of illegally copying information before joining Microsoft.
As of this writing, Luo is still MIA and has not responded to any allegations.
TechRadar Pro asked Intel for comment on the investigation and lawsuit, but we did not receive an immediate response.
More broadly, Intel’s revenue is finally starting to climb as stock prices continue to move in the right direction. The company saw its revenue increase 3% year over year last quarter, following previous quarters of stagnation, stagnation and decline.
Investors are also starting to see returns: shares are up 78% in three months, although the current valuation of $38.85 is still well below 2021 highs of nearly $70.
