- Microsoft is expected to launch “Agent Users” in November 2025.
- These AI bots could have their own email addresses and Teams accounts
- Agents are even described as having their “own identity”. But how will they work?
Microsoft has revealed some early details about a “new class of AI agents” that it says could enhance existing workforces by taking over some of the most repetitive administrative tasks.
The next “user agents” will be just that – users – with their “own identity” and “dedicated access to organizational systems and applications”.
Microsoft also promises that agent users will be able to “collaborate with humans and other agents,” diversifying the workforce beyond just humans.
Microsoft teases user agents
Tracked on the Microsoft 365 roadmap under the title “Microsoft Teams: Discovering and creating agent users from Teams and M365 Agent Store”, the update currently in development hints at a November 2025 rollout.
“These agents can attend meetings, edit documents, communicate via email and chat, and complete tasks independently,” Redmond added.
Perhaps Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff’s recently stated vision for the future has weight after all – after declaring that today’s CEOs will be the last to manage only humans – all future generations will also be tasked with managing AI agents within their workforce.
Microsoft licensing specialist Rich Gibbons suggests that these agent users could have their own identity in the organization’s directories via Entra ID or Azure ID – or even their own email addresses and Teams accounts.
Gibbons also notes that separate Agent 365 licenses may be required, although it is unclear how these will coexist with the use of Copilot credits. Perhaps Copilot will be distinguished as human help, while user agents will become a category of their own.
With Microsoft Ignite fast approaching on November 18-21, 2025, it’s possible that Agent Users will launch around then, but for now we can only imagine what this new type of hybrid workplace might look like.
