- SSD prices could be about to skyrocket due to increased demand for NAND flash memory
- The price of NAND flash has doubled in the last six months
- This is due to the AI boom, with more and more data centers switching from HDDs to SSDs.
We’re fast approaching Black Friday and the 2025 holiday sales, and for consumers trying to get their hands on one of the best SSDs, this may be the biggest window of opportunity to get a good deal on PC storage that we’ve seen in some time.
As DigiTimes reports, prices for NAND flash memory (used in SSDs) have doubled in the past six months due to the “AI boom,” according to Phison CEO Khein-Seng Pua. Growing data center demand (moving away from HDDs to SSDs) means we’re looking at possible supply shortages in 2026 and beyond, perhaps for several years, the CEO believes.
It is also worth noting that prices for TLC 1 terabit NAND (a popular flash memory chip) increased from $4.80 to $10.70, with similar price increases for other modules as well, illustrating a significant change in demand for these storage components.
Phison, which is a major player in the supply of components for SSDs (controllers, of course, rather than memory chips), recorded a 30% year-on-year increase in revenue in the third quarter of 2025, which was attributed to the increase in demand and price of said SSD controllers.
DigiTimes also reported that SanDisk had already increased NAND flash prices by 50% in November, again due to increased use of AI and data storage needs, a trend that has been continuing for months (with companies like Western Digital).
This all adds up to plenty of evidence suggesting that consumers may feel the impact of price increases when looking to purchase a new SSD.
Analysis: Black Friday is your best friend, SSD hunters
So it seems like there’s no better time than now to buy a new SSD, as Black Friday is thankfully upon us in November. And since I haven’t noticed any significant price changes at the consumer level yet, it’s probably best to take advantage of current prices while you still can, especially with a Black Friday discount.
Securing a 4TB SSD has done wonders for my gaming PC for years now, and while it may seem like overkill to some (especially because they’re not cheap), it’s definitely worth it. You’ll rarely have to worry about running out of disk space, and perhaps more importantly, you’ll be prepared to meet your storage needs for a while, no matter what happens with SSD prices in the future – which looks pretty bleak.
Whether it’s an M.2 SSD to slot into your PC’s motherboard or a portable external SSD, there are bound to be plenty of great deals to be found ahead of Black Friday and the special day itself, and we’ll be here to talk about them once the big sale begins.

The best SSDs for every budget
