The Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday fired general manager Nico Harrison, known for the infamous Luka Doncic trade.

Harrison surprisingly traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season, and the team struggled without him, leading to his firing. Doncic reacted to Harrison’s firing on Wednesday.

“The city of Dallas, the fans, the players, they always have a special place in my heart. I thought I was going to stay there forever but I didn’t,” Doncic told reporters after the team’s 121-92 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“They will always be a special place to me. I will always be able to call it home. But right now I’m focusing on the Lakers, trying to move on.”

The 26-year-old was then asked if he could ever see himself playing for the Mavericks again now that Harrison is out of the picture.

“Right now I’m just focusing on the Lakers. No further comment,” Doncic said.

Doncic signed a three-year, $161 million contract extension with the Lakers last offseason. He has a player option for the 2028-2029 season, the final year of his contract.

The star point guard led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2023-24, but despite his success, they traded him mid-season last year.

After trading Doncic last season, the Mavericks fell out of the playoffs and barely squeezed into the Play-In Tournament, where they were eliminated. They became the first team since 2019-20 to miss the playoffs the year after reaching the NBA Finals.

The five-time All-Star averaged 34.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.9 assists in eight games this season. The Mavericks have struggled this season with a 3-9 record, despite taking Cooper Flagg first overall in the NBA draft.

Doncic and the Lakers (8-4) will look to bounce back from their loss when they take on the New Orleans Pelicans (2-9) in the NBA Cup on Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
