Why Apple AirPods 4 are dominating school
In our review of the AirPods 4, our main issue was the price: at $129, we felt they were too expensive compared to their competitors. But less than $85? That’s a whole different story, as it’s a big improvement over the previous generation.
As always with AirPods, you’ll get the most out of them if you’re a member of the Apple ecosystem: their best features are exclusive to Apple technology. As we said in our review, it makes for a great experience: “The head-tracked spatial audio is so awesome with movies, the automatic switching between Apple devices is really helpful, and it’s generally a seamless experience.”
We really like the automatic switching between different Apple devices because we’re constantly switching from Mac to iPad to iPhone and, as the advertising slogan says, it just works.
The sound is very good for this type of fit: AirPods, unlike their Pro siblings, are placed outside your ear canal rather than inside, giving you a better awareness of the world around you but losing a bit of bass. However, the AirPods 4 still feel complete and impactful.
And the head-tracking spatial audio is really good in TV shows and movies, providing a true home theater effect without making you unpopular with your neighbors.
As you’d expect, there’s also support for Siri and Find My, and new gesture controls let you confirm things like “Do you want to record an outdoor walk” with a nod or reject calls with a shake of your head. And the mic quality is good for making voice and video calls.
